The concept:

Result was a model that refused to fly straight and level until a small aileron on the right trailing edge bent upwards was installed. After this minor modification the model became a recordholder in straight and level flying.

Name: Barvaz is the Hebrew word (ברווז) for duck/canard.

Materials:

Fuselage: B strip 10 x 10; Wings: light B 1; auxiliary stabilizer on wing: B 1; empennage supports: B 1.5; horizontal stabilizer: stiff B 1.5; vertical stab: B 1; one bamboo or pine dowel diameter 3-5 mm; linen band width ½ in; household rubber rings; optional ballast – steel or lead.

Assembly:

Cut out balsa parts in accordance to plan. Sand well. 

Wing:

Fix one wing half on building board; cement other half at given dihedral to it (photo); linen/cotton band can be cemented over the joining area on bottom of the wing. Let thoroughly dry. 

Empennage:

Fix one horizontal stab half on building board with needles and cement the other half to it observing the given dihedral angle. Cover joining area with a linen band and ample glue on top only. Glue vertical stab in center of horizontal stab on linen band. Visual check from all sides for obtaining best possible symmetry

Fuselage:

Carve a V-shaped seat for the wing on the rear end of the fuselage balsa strip. Cement empennage support part on one side of fuselage using clamps or clothespins. Let dry. Repeat this step on the other side and let dry. Take a round file or a knife and carve out seat of dowel on front of the fuselage. Cement dowel in place. Let dry.

Final Assembly:

Fix fuselage on building board with needles. Cement wing into its V-shaped seat using needles (photo). See that best possible symmetry is obtained. Cement auxiliary wing stabilizers at a 90° angle on wing and cement the aileron on the right trailing edge of the wing. It should be bent upwards just as shown on plan. 

Attach empennage on fuselage with a rubber ring.

My model was thus perfectly balanced. If yours is not use small piece of lead or scrap metal as ballast. Remember that a correct center of gravity (CG) is essential for successful flights.
