Weight 18 g / 0.6 oz

See plan 3004 for Still life in purple RPU

The concept:

  • Small light twinboom layout
  • Easy to build
  • Good flight characteristics
  • For dual purpose – glider or RPU
  • Pleasing lines

Building the sheet balsa chuck glider Still life in purple:

Materials:

Fuselage: B 3; wings: soft B 1.5; wing supports: B strips 3 x 3; wing-boom connecting parts: B 3; horizontal stab: B 1; fins: B 1; booms: skewer chopsticks 3 mm diameter; linen/cotton band width ½ in; ballast: piece of steel or lead.

Assembly:

Cut out balsa parts according to plan. Sand meticulously. Transfer outlines of canopy, rudders, ailerons ec. with pen from plan to wood. Make colouring now, if desired.

Fuselage gondola:

Make cutouts for wing. Cement wing supports in their positions. Use clamps, clothespins or needles.

Booms:

Cement wing-boom connecting parts on skewer chopsticks as shown on plan; hold with needles on building board. Align booms as they must sit absolutely parallel.

Wings:

Fix wing center section according to plan with needles on building board. Cement outer sections one by one to center section as you pay attention to given dihedral. Let dry. Use linen/cotton band for reinforcing wing joints on top and bottom and on leading edges. Let dry.

Cement wing on aligned booms. Watch for symmetry. Let dry.

Horizontal stab:

Cement horizontal stab on other end of booms just as shown on plan. Use glue generously here.

Final assembly:

Remove wing-boom-empennage unit from building board and lay aside. Take two voluminous books of same size or two equal sized cardboard boxes or something comparable and position them parallelly to one another. Cement fuselage gondola to wing-boom-empennage unit after having checked diligently symmetry. Hold in place with needles. Now set your model on the books/boxes as the fuselage gondola is hanging free between them. Let dry.

Cement fins on horizontal stab and let dry. Pay attention to symmetry and 90° angle.

Balance at given CG.

Have fun with your Still life in purple which is a glider with very well flying characteristics.

Bon vol! (een goede vlucht voor al mijn vrienden!)
