Span 23.5 cm / 9 ¼ in

Weight 21 g / ¾ oz

The concept:

■ Double-X-Wing configuration

■ Easy to build

■ Few parts

■ Good glide performance

■ Basis for YOUR own experiments

Other Eightwinger/Double X’er designs at beginner.zone’s have been so far:

■ 1026 Double X’er glider (X-wing)

■ 2009 Eightwinger Double-Xer (rubber powered)

■ 3026 Eightwinger Double-Xer RPU

Building the sheet balsa Double X’er Glider II:

Materials:

Fuselage: soft B 3; wings: stiff B 1; anti-warp pinewood strips: 2 x 2; linen/cotton band width ½ in = 12 mm; ballast: piece of steel or lead.

Assembly:

Cut out balsa parts according to plan. Remember – there are four front wing halves and four rear wing halves! Sand meticulously. Make coloring now, if wished (photo).

Fuselage.

Make four wing slots into fuselage part as shown on plan.

Wings.

Join four front wing halves one half to the other according to plan thereby paying attention to given dihedral. Repeat the same for four rear wing halves. Visual check to obtain best possible symmetry. Use linen/cotton band for reinforcing wing half joints on top and bottom.Let dry.

Final assembly.

Put fuselage on a so called ‘third hand’. Glue wing pairs into fuselage slots. Double check here as well symmetry. Let dry.

Install the eight anti-warp pinewood strips one at each wing tip. See photo. Let dry.

Balance at given CG.

Have fun with your Double X’er Glider II which has exceptional flying – slope soaring – characteristics. For trimming warp left or right upper rear wings up or down a little.

When storing your Eightwinger don’t have it sit on its wings, as these thin balsa parts tend to bend when loaded with weight; instead put model on its rear end standing upright or hang it at its CG from your hobby-room ceiling.
