Name
Yaran means close friends in Kurdish.
Kurds count 30 to 40 million people and speak an Indo-European language related but not close to Farsi/Persian. Their former territory Kurdistan was divided after World War I and is now part of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. By many observers and scholars Kurds are called the largest stateless ethnic group in the world. Kurds have no standardized language, Kurmanji and Sorani being their two primary dialects. Most Kurds belong to Sunni Islam, but others are Shi’a or Alevis or Yazidis. Well worth reading are Kurdish writers, most of them have been translated into diverse languages as Sherko Bekas, Cigerxwîn, Yaşar Kemal, Maha Hassan, Ava Homa, Burhan Sönmez, Abdulla Pashew, Bachtyar Ali, Salim Barakat.
Building the sheet balsa glider Yaran
Materials:
Fuselage: B 2.5 or 3; both wings: B 1; fin: B 1 or 1.5; linen/cotton band width 12 mm or ½ in; ballast: piece of steel or lead.
Assembly:
Cut out all balsa parts according to plan (photo). Sand meticulously. Transfer outlines of canopy with pen from plan to wood (photo). Make coloring now, if desired (photo).
Fuselage:
Make cutouts for both wings.
Wings:
Pin one wing half on your building board and cement corresponding half according to given dihedral. Visual check to obtain best possible symmetry. Repeat procedures for the other wing. Use linen/cotton band for reinforcing wing half joints on top and bottom.
Fin:
Cement fin on fuselage. Let dry.
Remember model only looks professional when absolute symmetry of all parts is maintained.
Final assembly:
Put fuselage on a so called ‘third hand’. Glue rear wing into its slot. Check here once more symmetry. Let dry.
Cement frontal wing on fuselage. Check symmetry. Let dry.
Balance your model at given CG.
Have fun with your Yaran which is a very stable glider. For altering direction of flight warp left or right rear wing up or down a little.
